Who requires a visa? Most
visitors do not require a visa to enter Malaysia if the period is less than
1 month and the purpose of the visit is business or social (see below for
more detailed requirements). However, visas are required at all times by
nationals of the following countries: Afghanistan, Angola, Bangladesh,
Bhutan, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Central African Republic, China
(PR), Congo (Rep), Congo (Dem Rep), Côte DIvoire, Djibouti,
Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Ghana, Guinea-Bissau, India, Liberia,
Mali, Myanmar, Mozambique, Nepal, Niger, Nigeria, Pakistan, Rwanda, Sri
Lanka, Taiwan and Western Sahara (nationals of these countries may be
granted visa relaxation for transit through Malaysia, for less than 5 days,
via a Malaysian international airport, if in possession of confirmed onward
airline tickets to a third country before arriving). British Overseas
Citizens also require a visa.
Visas are not required by the
following for social or business visits: (a) 1. nationals of EU
countries for stays of up to 3 months (except nationals of Ireland for stays
of up to 2 months and Greece and Portugal for stays of up to 1 month);
(b) 2. nationals of Commonwealth countries (except nationals of those
countries mentioned above who do require a visa) for stays of up to 1 month;
nationals of Australia, Canada, New Zealand and South Africa for up to 3
months.
(c) 3. nationals of Albania, Algeria, Argentina, Bahrain,
Bosnia-Herzegovina, Brazil, Croatia, Cuba, Czech Republic, Egypt, Hungary,
Iceland, Japan, Jordan, Korea (Rep), Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon,
Liechtenstein, Morocco, Norway, Oman, Peru, Poland, Qatar, Romania, San
Marino, Saudi Arabia, Slovakia, Switzerland, Tunisia, Turkey, Turkmenistan,
United Arab Emirates, Uruguay, USA and Yemen for stays of up to 3 months;
(d) nationals of Iran, Iraq, Libya, Palestine, Syria and holders of a
Portuguese Certificate of Identity or a Macao Travel Permit for stays of up
to 14 days;
(e) nationals of all countries other than those mentioned
above for stays of up to 1 month;
(f) travellers on transit to another
country, for less than 5 days, with a confirmed ticket via a Malaysian
airport.
Note: Nationals of India, Pakistan, Bangladesh
and Sri Lanka must apply for a visa from the consulate, embassy or Malaysian
Immigration Department in their countries of residence. Visitors intending
to stay longer than the granted period should write to the Immigration
Department at the Malaysian High Commission in the country in which they are
applying.
Restricted entry: Nationals of Israel and Serbia and
Montenegro (unless in transit and staying inside the airport). Foreign women
who are at least 6 months pregnant (unless in transit) and those of scruffy
appearance may be denied entry.
What
documents will be required? A valid passport or other travel
documents recognised by the Malaysian government required by all. The former
must have enough pages for the embarkation stamp upon arrival and be valid
for at least 6 months at date of entry. The latter should be endorsed with a
valid re-entry permit.
Note: All visitors must also have proof of
adequate funds and an onward or return sea or air ticket.

(b) Two passport-size photos. (c) Fee (payable in cash or postal order
only). (d) Two completed and signed application forms (at a charge of £0.25
each). (e) Proof of sufficient funds (including original and photocopy of
most recent bank statement). (f) Onward or return ticket or travel itinerary
from travel agent. (g) Compulsory yellow fever vaccination certificate for
all visitors coming from infected areas as listed by WHO. (h) Letter of
introduction (and copy) from applicants employer, college or
university.
Time required to issue visa:
Same day morning submission of the application (0900-1200) and
afternoon collection (1530).
What is
the cost of a visa? Social: single- and multiple-entry visa prices
are flat-rate fees of £10, except for Indian passports, in which case
the multiple-entry fee is £20. Prices are subject to change. Enquire at
the Malaysian High Commission for details.
How long is the visa valid for? The
permitted length of stay is entered on the visa at the time of issue and is
at the discretion of the issuer. Normally 1 to 3 months from date of issue.

Temporary residence (Special pass for employment): Those wishing to take up
employment should apply for a job in advance. Their prospective employers
should then apply on their behalf for a Professional or Employment Pass by
contacting the Malaysian Immigration Head Office, Block I, Pusat Bandar

mentioned in (a), except China (PR), Cambodia, CIS, India, Laos, Macau
(SAR), Myanmar and Vietnam require a letter from a local sponsor (Singapore
registered company, citizen or permanent resident) bearing responsibility
for the visitors stay.
1. All other nationals require a
Social Visit Pass, which is issued on arrival (at the discretion of the
Immigration Officer) provided the traveller holds a passport valid for 6
months beyond date of departure, confirmed onward or return travel
documentation, and sufficient funds to cover expenses for the duration of
stay. For nationals holding British and Irish passports, the maximum length
of stay is 30 days, for other nationals the maximum length of stay is 14
days. Visitors on a Social Visit Pass are not permitted to work in
Singapore. For stays over 3 months, applications must be made for a Long
Term Social Visit Pass, for which a local sponsor (such as a Singapore
national or organisation) is required. The maximum extension is 90 days per
12 months. To acquire an extension, the immigration authorities in Singapore
should be contacted. The price of the extension is subject to the
immigration officers discretion.
What

completed application forms. (f) Yellow fever vaccination certificate if
passing through or coming from an endemic zone within 6 days of arriving in

Social Visit Pass/Student Pass: Maximum of 3 months. Professional Visit
Pass: Up to 6 months (at the discretion of the Singapore Immigration

Other information: Temporary
residence: Apply to Consulate (or Consular section of High Commission or
Embassy), who will forward application to the authorities in Singapore.
Note: (a) Women more than 24 weeks pregnant must obtain a letter
from a doctor confirming that it is safe for them to travel and a Social
Visit Pass for Expectant Mothers prior to arrival; apply at the High
Commission or Embassy. (b) Severe penalties are imposed on those found in
possession of narcotics; the death penalty is in force for those convicted
of trafficking in heroin or morphine. (c) Regulations are subject to change
at short notice and all visitors are therefore advised to check with the
High Commission or Embassy before leaving.
Unless you specify how
long you intend staying, you'll normally be stamped in for fourteen days .
Entering from anywhere other than Malaysia (with which there are
no duty-free restrictions), you can bring in 1 litre each of spirits, wine
and beer duty-free; duty is payable on all tobacco. Other duty-free goods in
Singapore include electronic and electrical items, cosmetics, cameras,
clocks, watches, jewellery, and precious stones and metals.
Extending your visa for up to three months is possible, at the discretion of
the Singapore Immigration and Registration Department (Mon-Fri 9am-5pm; tel
3916100). Extensions beyond three months are less common, but there's always
the option of taking a bus up to Johor Bahru, across the border in Malaysia,
and then coming back in again.
